The recently adopted Moab and Grand County Unified Transportation Master Plan (UTMP) identifies the paving of Sand Flats Road as one of ten Prioritized Roadway Projects. Paving Sand Flats Road and installing dedicated bike and pedestrian travelways will mitigate the likelihood and severity of accidents by reducing user conflict, eliminating vehicle created dust and hazardous washboard conditions, and improving night driving conditions. In addition, paving will reduce the detrimental health effects of fugitive dust on recreationists and campers, as well as nearby plantlife.
